Founded in 1865 as the Peacetime Club at the end of the Civil War by the ‘Everglades Six,’ three Union and three Confederate officers who sought a post war private hunting and fishing sanctuary at which they could engage in detente and gather with former enemies who had become new friends.
Renamed Cliff Lake Sporting Club in 1952 by then chairman and Ft. Lauderdale resident, the grandson of a founder; membership is by invitation or legacy only.
To maintain the exclusivity intended by the club’s founders, membership is limited solely to men and new member applications are not accepted.
